Parties interested in running for town council, or for the office of Vice Mayor, need to pick up an application from the Town Clerk during regular business hours of Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-2pm.  Additional hours are available by appointment.

Applications are due by midnight TONIGHT!  NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Applications may be dropped off during business hours, tonight from 6pm-9pm at Town Hall (before and during Town Council Meeting) and from 9pm-midnight, may be dropped off at 114 E. Main Street in Sharpsburg.

Join the Town of Sharpsburg as we ring in the Christmas season with our 3rd annual Christmas Tree Lighting!  Located in the square, come out as we enjoy music, cookies and hot cocoa, and much, much more!  Santa has been invited and the elves that we have spoken to are pretty sure he will be able to join us again this year.  Come out for this yearly tradition

23,000 candles, one for each soldier killed, wounded or missing at the Battle of Antietam will shine bright.

The event is held by the Antietam National Battlefield, in cooperation with the American Business Women's Association and the Washington County Convention and Visitor's Bureau.


The event opens to the public at 6pm.  The main entrance to the event is Richardson Avenue off Maryland Route 34.

The driving tour is approximately 5 miles long.  Vehicles are to use parking lights only, to the extent technology permits this, and continue through the event without stopping.  Visitors are prohibited from walking the tour route.  Event brochures will be distributed at the event entrance and contributions will also be accepted.
